Field Trip

Today my computer imaging class, BIMM, went on a field trip with some of the other media-tech classes to the Mediatech Institute of Dallas. It was pretty cool we toured the two departments of the school: sound and film. I liked both but the sound lab tour was more fun because the guide was a cool old guy. He was a pro mixer and professor for the institute. He had worked on things for big movies including The Incredibles.  Through some q&a we found out that over the years he has built a database of sound clips and effects that take up roughly 2TB of space. TB=terabyte. That’s 2000GB of disk space. That’s the equivalent of 67 30GB iPod videos. All filled with sound clips!

The rest of the tour was cool too but that seemed to blow my mind.
