I Zumba-ed the other day. It was crazy intense.
So, I was asked if I wanted to go Zumba. I had no idea what it was, and it was explained to me as a “dance based workout”. Well, since I really like dancing I figured that a dance workout would be right up my ally. So much so, that I wouldn’t even break a sweat.
I was wrong.
I arrived as the only guy amongst 25 other women whose average age looked to be mid-late 30’s. But I didn’t let that phase me, no actually it made me think that Zumba-ing was going to be easy. I thought, “If these ladies can do it then I’m not gonna have any trouble”. Oh boy. 20 minutes into it I was already tired. FYI: its an hour long session.
By time it was over I was drenched in sweat and exhausted. Afterwards as we were filing out some of the ladies asked what I thought because I was the only guy there, and I would go so far as to argue that I was the only [straight] guy ever. But anyways, I told them that it was much harder then I thought it would have been.
I really respected some of those women. There was this one lady who looked like 60+ and she didn’t even break a sweat. She made me look pathetic.
Getting into shape,
Andrew Nemeth
