Now, I don’t remember if I’ve written about the wall before or not, but for those of you that don’t know, the wall is a large retaining wall the length of my property. It is also a low spot, and a place where water collects which produces really tall [and thick] weeds. My mom doesn’t like it and thinks it is an eye sore so she asked that my dad and I work to clean it up. We made time yesterday [Saturday] to work on the wall for about 3 hours.
We didn’t get a lot done. Our first strategy was to sharpen the head of a pick ax and chop the weeds down at their base. But that idea was virtually ineffective. Then we started to use a hatchet, but after 8 swings it was only half way cut. Still a futile offense. But then my dad had an idea to clamp a vice grip around the base of the weed and then tie a rope from the end of the grips to the back of my mom’s car. This idea seemed like it would work, and I especially liked it because instead of manual labor [just pulling weeds] I was going to get to sit in the Pilot [which means leather seats, AC, and my music]. This was a really good idea, except that it didn’t work.
We tried like 10 times, each time a little bit different, but each time something didn’t work.
Those weeds are really in there!
