“I think I just put someone on hold” I said nervously to Richard [my new boss].
He laughed and then became business like and said, “Who is it?”
“I don’t know.”
“Who did they ask for?”
“I think they said Danny? But I don’t think anyone here goes by Danny.”
“…Ok”
I went back to my desk/workstation. What had happened was Kristen [HR/Receptionist/Accountant] had already left for the day, all the incoming calls go to her desk/phone. When she left she put the phone on “night mode” or something so that other people in the office could answer the phone. I didn’t realize it. When the call came in my desk phone started ringing. I assumed Richard was trying to page me/dial my extension so I picked it up.
Richard and Hunter both got a pretty good kick out of it, and I thought it was pretty funny too.
