Have you ever played put-put golf at a course? I have and its pretty fun. Have you ever played put-put not at a course? Its even more fun. The only downside is you need to be careful where you play and who sees you playing because it could cause some tension or even an altercation [and fisticuffs if you're rowdy].
There is a group of us meet every other Monday, we usually go out for a bite and talk about life and what not and so on. This week we met up at Palio’s Pizza Cafe [in Rockwall near Kroger]. Alan and Juddson arrived early so they waited outside in the parking lot for the rest of our group to show up. When Nathan and I arrived they were playing “urban put-put” to help pass the time.
Urban Put-Put is very similar to regular put-put, except you don’t play at a course. You play wherever you want. We played on the grassy median that divided some of the parking spaces. All it takes to play is a putter [golf club], a golf ball, and a cup [or you can use a rock in a pinch]. The object of the game is to use the putter to hit the ball in such a way that it touches/hits the cup [or rock if you're desperate].
The game becomes interesting and challenging when you begin to use the natural environment to add obstacles to your “green”. For example, where we played there was a cut out in the grassy median to drain water, we set up the ball and cup on opposite sides of this gully so that there was a challenge of chipping the ball over the gap.
The game quickly ended when some guys eating at Palio’s came out and asked us to stop because we were hitting the golf ball near their nice Infinity G35 [an expensive car]. That’s why I gave that quick disclaimer at the top.
Fortunately they didn’t want to mess with our group and nothing happened more than them asking us to stop.
