Last night I was at home watching some TV when one of my friends called. It was Seth and Lori from apt 427. They said they were out in Dallas but that someone had called them saying their apartment was flooding. Since I was home and they weren’t they asked if I could run and go take a look. I threw on my shoes and ran upstairs. As soon as I turned down their hallway I could see that the water was flowing out of their room into the hallway. I called them back and said, “Its real bad.”…
No one could get in touch with one of the office people that live on site. The emergency maintenance number was going to a voicemail. It seemed like no one was able to do anything. The last resort became Dallas Fire Dept.
They had a great response time. They arrived on the scene just as Seth and Lori were getting home. When the door opened you could see gallons of water pouring out of the ceiling. It looked terrible. We ran in a salvaged what little we could. We had to wade through ankle high water to enter the apartment. DFD warned us to move quickly because the ceiling could collapse any minute.
It took over an hour to shut the water off to the broken pipe above their kitchen. In the mean time the neighbors beside and every floor below them became flooded as well.
Mary Dodd was there because her and Todd had been spending the evening with Seth and Lori. Dodd and Lori bravely ran into the apartment a couple times to capture some pictures of the damage for insurance purposes. Mary, despite the pain from her recent surgery, was in good spirits and helped to calm everyone down. She also exhibited great disaster relief skills.
The kind neighbors across the hall let us all come in while DFD tried to pump/squeegee the water out of the hall.
This is the third time that a pipe has burst in Seth and Lori’s apt. but its not because of anything they’re doing. Its because the Indigo has made poor repair jobs. Hopefully this time will be different.
Unfortunately, a lot of people on 4th floor aren’t going to wait to find out, including Seth and Lori. Their lease expires in 19 days and they will be glad to move out.
Fortunately my apt was not effected by the water damage since I’m on a different wing.
